Next week on February 11th, Disney is releasing The Jungle Book for the first time on Blu Ray and Digital. The movie is *ahem* older than I am – it was released in October of 1967. It was one of my favorite movies as a child, and I’ve even gotten my children to like it – which surprisingly is sometimes a problem. Kids these days are so spoiled with great entertainment and flawless special effects that the classic movies from decades ago seem to have a hard time making an impression. Just a few weeks ago my youngest daughter fell in love with The Bare Necessities song on YouTube and played it over and over again. There’s something to be said for that!
The folks at Disney sent me some new activity sheets to celebrate the movie rerelease in style. The first one is a printable craft. You’ll need thick paper, scissors, a pencil, stick or straw and tape.
Directions: Cut out the snake with scissors along the dotted line. Tape a pencil, stick or drinking straw to the bottom side of the head and let the rest of the body bounce underneath. You can use it as a puppet or pretend to hypnotize your friends with Kaa’s wild eyes!
The second is a printable maze and two super-simple picture sudoku puzzles. I’ve also created an answer key in case you might want to use this as a mini lesson plan!
Meet the most unforgettable characters and embark on a thrilling adventure with Mowgli as he journeys deep into the jungle and learns “The Bare Necessities” of life from happy-go-lucky Baloo the bear. Meet Bagheera, the wise old panther, and crazy King Louie, the orangutan. But watch out for the cunning tiger Shere Khan and Kaa, the ssssneakiest snake in the jungle! The Jungle Book is available for pre-order now and goes on sale for real on February 11th, 2014.
